Our Story
Our Commitment
I am an Ophthalmologist who specializes in glaucoma, the leading cause of irreversible blindness in the world. Glaucoma and many other blinding eye conditions are found in their moderate to advanced stage, and after 15 years of fighting to prevent blindness, I am passionate to be part of re-thinking our process of how Canadians enter the eye care system, by breaking down barriers to accessing eye care that would lead to early detection of many preventable causes of vision loss.
We believe that every Canadian should have access to the high-quality medical expertise to preserve and extend their vision span, allowing them to enjoy a high quality of life, fully participate in both work and personal endeavors, and reduce other physical and mental health issues that come with vision loss. We have formed Euclid Telehealth to accomplish this mission.
The epidemic of preventable Vision Loss
Today, according to public health estimates, 8 million Canadians are currently living with an eye issue or condition that can lead to blindness - and it is estimated that 75% of these cases if detected early, and managed in a timely fashion, would preserve the vision or slow down the visual decline. As a result, left unchecked, 1 in 5 Canadians will suffer preventable vision loss in their lifetime.
An epidemic of preventable vision loss is currently impacting Canadians and the global population. The following are a few statistics on vision threatening eye conditions:
Vision Loss
Vision Loss
Vision loss globally is 6.43%; Vision loss in Canada is 5.7%.
Diabetic Retinopathy (DR)
Diabetic Retinopathy (DR)
177,210,000 people globally are estimated to have this condition; and approximately 1,244,760 Canadians, growing by 370,000 people to 1,614,030 over the next 7 years.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma
76,000,000 people globally have been diagnosed.
Age-Related
Macular Degeneration
Age-Related Macular Degeneration
2,000,000 Canadians over aged 50; 196,000,000 people globally.
The growth rate of these diseases is accelerating with our aging population, longer life expectancy, and lifestyle choices. Moreover, it is estimated that the majority of people living with chronic, vision threatening eye conditions are undiagnosed, since many of these conditions have no symptoms until the vision loss is profound and the pathology end stage.
